An Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit assessment estimated that summer heat and drought could remove about 3.1 million tonnes from potato (Solanum tuberosum) production across Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Including Great Britain, the estimated loss rises above 3.5 million tonnes. The figures are scenario-based estimates, not final official harvest statistics.

Why it matters

Lower output and reduced tuber size can tighten processing and ware supply, affect seed-potato (Solanum tuberosum) demand decisions and increase quality pressure across the 2026/27 chain. Final certified seed availability still requires separate official evidence.
